Following revelations that the main piece from the permanent "Treasures of Croesus" exhibit at the Usak Archeological Museum had been replaced by a fake and stolen from museum grounds, the Cultural Resources and Museum Directorate has sent a 6 person team to inspect the Usak museum.
Hurriyet - June 06, 2006 - The team, composed of archeologists, inspectors, and museum experts, will be examining the remaining pieces in the "Treasures of Croesus" exhibit, as well as ordering and assessing their value. The discovery earlier this year that the central "Winged Sea-Horse Brooch" piece was a fake was the spark which led to an investigation that wound up in the arrest of 9 people, including the director of the Usak Archeological Museum. |
