A number of imitation perfume bottles broke and chemicals from the bottles accumulated around the hot electric bulbs in the ceiling and began to flare.
Sabah - 28 June, 2006 - The investigation report determining the cause of the fire in the Atatürk Airport C Terminal on May 24, has been released. According to the report, the cause of the fire is imitation perfumes.
Imitation Lacoste and Davidoff perfume bottles, which were to be sent abroad, broke, which resulted in chemicals being released into the air. When these chemicals accumulated around the hot bulbs on the ceiling, they went up in flames and a fire broke out. Experts have concluded that storing imitation perfumes, containing ethyl alcohol, in sacks was a big mistake.
