Turkey lifts bird flu restrictions
Monday, 09 April 2007
There were no cases of humans being infected with bird flu in the latest outbreaks.

NTVMSNBC - April 9, 2007 - Turkey has lifted the last of the quarantine restrictions it had put in place to contain an outbreak of avian influenza in the country’s south east, Turkish Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Mehmet Mehdi Eker said Thursday.

The quarantine measures against bird flu were lifted as of today in the country,” Eker said in a speech delivered in Diyarbakir.

Earlier this year, there had been an outbreak of bird flu in the Gercus district of south eastern province of Batman and the Bismil region of Diyarbakir.

The “measures are over. There is no problem in regard to the disease in Turkey,” said Eker.
